Going for gold with Welsh Athletics
The team at Precedent worked together to create a captivating and engaging design, which has transformed Welsh Athletics’ online presence and embraces their new brand.
As an organisation with people at its heart and one that hopes to instil a real sense of pride and belonging for athletes in Wales, it was crucial that this message was convened clearly online, making it accessible and welcoming to all. As well as this, it also had to inspire the young, attract volunteers and encourage support from outsiders, whether that be financial or by getting involved, hands on.
While the site retains a professional feel, the new design concept uses far more imagery and social media feeds to reflect the real life hopes and dreams of all aspiring and practising athletes. The home page is bursting with information and resources, but remains clean cut and easy to use. "The site has become much more than an information hub", said Jo Goodwin, Lead Consultant."It's a spring board for action which capitalises on Welsh Athletics' growing social media to emphasise their ongoing involvement in the community."
The site uses the Umbraco open source .NET CMS system to allow the team at Welsh Athletics to easily maintain content, while the images in the banner are supported by JQuery. While the site also incorporates other social media feeds such as YouTube and flickr, the real emphasis was on making it a highly useable, effective and attractive site for everyone.
Emily Cootes, acting Regional Director (Cardiff), said of the project, "We're incredibly proud of the website we've produced together with the team at Welsh Athletics. With this sector increasingly taking centre stage in the run up to 2012 Olympics, we've created a unique design that will really stand out in the sector and focus on both celebrating and inspiring athletics in Wales."
Matt Newman, CEO of Welsh Athletics, said: "We are delighted with the overall design and feel that the new website clearly articulates the purpose and vision of Welsh Athletics. Precedent has successfully interpreted the brief and has created an online presence which will allow ease of access to information for every type of user. The site is the central pillar of our communication strategy as we seek to maximise the opportunity from the 2012 Olympic and 2014 Commonwealth Games."
