Crimestoppers and London Met Police join forces to tackle local crime

Having worked with Crimestoppers on a number of projects, creating a sub site which integrated with the London Metropolitan Police website, was something we here at Precedent were very keen to develop.

The new sub site will act as a way of communicating Crimestoppers' active Most Wanted appeals through the official channel of the police force's site. They wanted to do so in such a way that each party would retain their own brand identity, while still making use of all of the relevant information from Most Wanted. In essence, they wanted to combine the Crimestoppers' data into the Metropolitan Police's site, while making a clear distinction between the police force, the charity and their differing approaches.

To facilitate this, we took the system originally developed for Crimestoppers two years ago, and exposed the London Metropolitan Police force's information. This gives users the option of searching by the usual crime types, but also by a Met specific search by borough.

The site can still be identified as Crimestoppers', with the URL and the main image banner; however the Metropolitan Police's brand is clearly visible, so users know that when they click on to this sub site from the police's main site, that they have gone to the charity's information but with the guidance and support of the police force itself. A prerequisite was the presence of the Met's own branding, while the image banner houses the Crimestoppers' logo, link and phone number. This new sub site will continue to be hosted within the Crimestoppers system, and continue to help take criminals off the streets.

The success of the launch is easily reflected in Google Analytics, which shows that in comparison to the roughly 3300 visitors the Crimestoppers site receives daily, 26,383 visits were recorded on the Crimestoppers corporate website, while the London's Most Wanted site had 34,285. This is an amazing result and a great start for a partnership which will hopefully see more criminals brought to justice.
