‘Change your world 2010’: Sustrans’ new campaign site launches

Sustrans wanted an engaging site that would attract new, as well as invigorate existing, support while spreading the word of their fourth annual ‘Change your World’ campaign which takes places between 1 June and 4 July 2010.

The premise of the campaign is based around the charity's aim to increase the number of local journeys carried out by foot, bike or public transport, from two out of five, to four out of five by 2020.

Running with the idea that lots of individuals each making a small change to the way they travel can add up to make a big difference, we created a dynamic site that expertly blends eye-catching design and interactive technology, while integrating it all with social media to maximise the effect of the campaign.

The design is what makes this project really special - it brings the concept to life and builds on Sustrans' previous campaign branding to create something that looks and feels really fun to use.

Users are encouraged to pledge to ‘change their world' by leaving the car at home and taking a form of sustainable transport instead. When they do this they pledge to do a certain number of miles; this is then added together with the pledges from other users, to collectively ‘travel around the world'.

There is a Flash built timeline on the site that sends this information via an XML feed, displaying where people are ‘in the world' based upon when they pledged their miles. Meanwhile, the social media element gives users a link for them to paste onto their Facebook or Twitter, to share their pledge and progress with friends.

As well as working with Sustrans in the digital environment, we have also produced some stunning posters and postcards to promote the ‘Change your World' campaign.

Ed Richards, lead designer on the project, said: "The idea was to create an engaging community site that was bright, vibrant and perfect for encouraging people to dust off their bikes, walk to work, catch a bus or train, or just leave the car at home this summer."

We look forward to watching the campaign grow and seeing how supporters contribute, interact and get involved through the new site and associated materials.
