Precedent helps stop crime with Crimestoppers online

Crimestoppers is a dynamic charity that was in need of a website that achieves a multitude of goals, including energetically representing the core mission of crime prevention and detection, spreading awareness, and importantly garnering financial support.

Having previously worked with Crimestoppers on their successful youth campaign site shadowcs.co.uk, we were excited to use our expertise to create another thriving and multifaceted online experience for their core website.

We revamped the main Crimestoppers website to include innovative technologies such as the first purpose built appeals management system for crime information gathering. This is the first time a system has been built specifically for use by police forces across the company to enter appeals into a central appeals database. Users can monitor the appeals through sophisticated search methods and then send valuable and potentially life saving information to Crimestoppers quickly and anonymously.

As well as developing such pioneering bespoke technologies we importantly listened to what the sites users wanted; local news and local information. “In Your Area” features appear throughout the site, from the home page down, including showing details of the most wanted criminals in your area. Significantly, users can subscribe to rss feeds to relevant content, including being able to specify precise details for the appeals that they are interested in.

“The next stage in the ongoing success of the Crimestoppers ‘Most Wanted' website is a truly exciting one,” said Neil Davis, Precedent's Director of Strategy. “For the first time, people across the UK can access truly local and national information about crime from both Crimestoppers and the Police on one site. It is also a massive step forward for promoting Crimestoppers as a charity in need of financial support. We are immensely proud to be associated with such an important tool in the ongoing fight against crime in the UK.”
