Am Baile

Award-winning Gaelic site for Am Baile
The Highland Council wanted to create a virtual Gaelic Village. The Am Baile website was to be a major new bi-lingual site focusing on the language, culture and heritage of the Highlands. It was intended to help people learn about the area, past and present, and to promote the use of the Gaelic language among native speakers and learners.
The site needed to hold a staggering amount of information and offer an innovative, stimulating and enjoyable experience for people of all ages and abilities. We worked with the Council to create a unique brand for the site and a content structure and visual hierarchy that would enable visitors to intuitively navigate their way through content whilst capturing their interest and imagination with the promotion of additional content and features.
Designed and built by our team, the site was launched in 2003. Since then we have continued to advise and evolve the site in partnership with the Highland Council. It now boasts a learning and research resource that contains over 40,000 items in a searchable cultural archive, alongside a searchable newspaper index containing over 70,000 records.
Since launch, the website continues to be a huge success. It is now the largest bi-lingual English /Scots Gaelic web site in the world and was awarded the prestigious award for Excellence by The Scottish Executive in 2005.

Precedent have always been innovative, responsive and dedicated and have been a pleasure to work with, despite the great distances between us geographically. We do not hesitate in recommending Precedent to anyone interested.
