Giving new life to Age Concern

Age Concern England wanted a website that was a friendly, inviting and engaging environment for their key target audiences. Critically, the site needed to ensure that the information it provided was easy and intuitive to find, especially for older users.

Age Concern have a very strong brand, and a suite of fantastic photography, which meant we were able to refresh the site so that it better reflected their core brand values of 'enabling, influential, dynamic, caring and expert'. We also looked at the extensive amount of information on the site that needed to be shared with the right audiences. And we worked with their team to organise and restructure the site content to make the information easily accessible and understandable, using simple and clear navigation.

The site was built using the RedDot content management system, enabling their internal staff to easily update content on the site on a regular basis, without the need for any technical expertise or knowledge.

After launch in February 2006 the site was reviewed by Third Sector magazine, who said:

"This site is absolutely packed... No stone is left unturned, yet you never feel overwhelmed or confused - it's a very good job." And commenting on special features, "The 'living room' is perhaps the most impressive single section of any charity site this column has visited".

In April 2008, The Sunday Telegraph voted the site number 59 in their top 101 websites, it was one of only four charities mentioned in the list.

Claire Renn, ACE's Web Manager was really happy with the result. “We're really pleased with the style and execution of the new site. We've managed to present the positive messages about Age Concern and those we support in a site that feels uncluttered and easy to use, even for the novice web browser.”

Since the site's launch, there has been an overall increase of 21% in the amount of unique visitors and a 53% increase in traffic to the Information and Advice section. There has similarly been a very impressive 27% increase in online donations.
